Where has technology taken us?

The explosion of the Internet is changing the traditional classroom by providing students access to information from around the world. Billions of websites are at your childs fingertips since this information boom has happened so suddenly.It is imperative they are taught how to effectively conduct online research. A great deal of resources are available online and students must learn to evaluate the content they find. Before, when someone wanted to publish an educational journal, it was subjected to peer review.  Today, anyone can submit an article whether the information is valid or not, eg., Wikipedia! Anyone can create a website and publish it around the world! During online searches, students are able to access information with a wide range of quality.

Why should we teach students the skills of how to research and evaluate? 
I recently found out the Internet currently contains over 2 Billion wev sites and is growning at a rate of one page per every four seconds. Students need to learn the basic strategies and navigational skills necessary to make the most of what is placed before them. Through training your students how to do research, we as teachers have better control over our classroom curriculum and assessment. You will be facilitating their learning.  Isn't that what it's all about? Find out as much as you can about research and evaluation for your students.  It will help you as a teacher in the long run.
